Trekking Registration Certificate (TRC)

rekking Agents Association of Nepal (TAAN) has started issuing Trekking Registration Certificate (TRC) documents to trekkers from Thamel and Pokhara counters effective from October 21, 2006 with this new provision, tourists who are interested to visit the general trekking areas of Nepal are compulsory required to get TRC documents through trekking agencies that are registered with the Government of Nepal and keep it with them throughout their Trekking in Nepal. However, SAARC citizens, diplomats, invitees of Nepal Government and foreigners who visit the area for different purposes other than trekking do not need to acquire TRC. Similarly, those who take permits from the Ministry or from Nepal Mountaineering Association also do not have to obtain Trekking Registration Certificate. TRC is non-transferable, non-refundable, non-endorsable and valid only for single entry. The TRC regulated areas are Annapurna Region, Sagarmatha National park, Langtang National Park, Rara National Park, Khaptad National Park, Dhaulagiri Region, Makalu Barun National Park, and Rolwaling area. NRs 250 is the rate that has been fixed for TRC per tourist.

If any foreign tourist is found trekking in the trekking regions without receiving services from the concerned trekking companies, different check posts as Police check post, TAAN, National Parks and Conservation area Projects shall stop him/her from moving ahead. Such persons face legal actions as per the laws of Government of Nepal.

TAAN said TRC is necessary to ensure safety and security of trekkers, to maintain a record system that includes personal details of trekkers, trekking routes, duration, etc, to upgrade the service standard and contribute for better management of sustainable mountain tourism development in Nepal, to help carry out search and rescue operations for trekkers in case of natural calamities and other accidents by locating their whereabouts and to check the illegal operations in the trekking industry of Nepal.
