Kailash Classic K2 Base Camp Trek

Mt K2This is the classic trek to the base of the worlds second highest mountain! We start out with a two day drive along the Karakoram Highway to Skardu. From Skardu we have an exciting jeep ride to Askole where we start the trek. We will be trekking at quite a relaxed pace and will have time to explore the areas around each camp or simply enjoy the amazing scenery. After eight days of trekking we reach Concordia where we spend three nights with a chance to visit K2 BC.

Day 01
:
Arrive Paro - Flight: Your dream to visit the Dragon Kingdom finally unfolds as it comes into view from the small window of the Druk Air and as it descends to the Paro airstrip you would definitely hold your breath for a few seconds. We at Indian Horizons welcome you to this beautiful valley that would attract you with its rich terraced farmland and also famous for the oldest temples, monasteries and the national museum. Evening visit the local market. Overnight at Paro.
Day 02
:
In Paro: After your breakfast with Indian Horizons guide proceed on a excursion to the Taktsang monastery "Tiger's Nest". The interesting location of this monastery on the cliff-side overlooking the valley is awesome. After lunch visit the perfectly symmertical Rinpung Dzong,built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngwang Namgyal, the first spiritual and temporal ruler of Bhutan. Later proceed to Ta Dzong located on the hillside built as a watchtower during inter-valley wars of the 17th Century to defend Rinpung Dzong.Overnight at Paro .
Day 03
:
Paro - Thimphu: Morning after breakfast with Indian Horizons escort drive to Thimpu. Before reaching Thimphu visit the 17th Century Simtokha Dzong on a lofty ridge that was built in 1627 and houses the school for Buddhist studies. Later proceed to the burnet ruins of Drugyel Dzong (victorious fortress) located eighteen kilometers from Paro town on south side of the valley. This Bhutanese monastery repelled several invading Tibetan armies during the 17th century. Overnight at Thimphu.
Day 04
:
In Thimphu: This bustling town on the banks of the river encircled by the hills and the center of government, religion and commerce would attract you and leave you spell bound. After breakfast with Indian Horizons guide begin your sightseeing tour. The Indian Horizons guide would take you first to the Tashichho Dzong on the bank of the river in which the main secretarial building houses the throne room of His Majesty the King of Bhutan.

If you are a lover of golf than try your skill at the nine hole circuit of the Bhutan’s only golf course which would definitely arouse the feeling in you to take the photography that would be a feeling of peace in walls of your living room. After lunch the Indian Horizons guide would take you to the Thangka Painting School, Folk Heritage Museum, Traditional Medicine Hospital, Traditional Papper Factory, Handi Craft Emporium, Textile Museum, National Library, Mini Zoo and Nunary School. Evening visit the market of the Thimpu Town to collect your precious shopping gifts for your family members back home. Overnight at Thimpu.
Day 05
:
Thimphu-Punakha: If you are lucky to be at Thimphu on weekend you would be able to witness the weekend market that holds a special significance to understand the culture. Later drive to Punakha the old capital of Bhutan until 1955. Your drive to Punakha is quite interesting as you pass through the pine forest and small villages which suddenly opens up at the breathtaking views of the Eastern Himalayas that takes you through the Dorchula Pass at 10,500 feet. As you view this region it would appear that God have covered the land with a white shawl as if to protect it from the cold. Your lunch would be hosted at Dochula Hotel where food would be served to your in traditional style and with a cup of hot coffee after lunch enjoy the panoramic views. Overnight at Punakha.
Day 06
:
Punakha-Wangduephodrang-Punakha: After breakfast visit the Wangduephodrang the last town of the central highway where the Dzong the town's most visible feature which played a critical role in unifying the western, central and southern Bhutanese districts. Later visit the Punakha Dzong built during the 17th Century by the first Shabdrung to serve as the religious and administrative center. The Punakha Dzong strategically built at the junction of the two rivers houses sacred temples including the Marchen where the embalmed body of Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal lies in state. The Dzong has been fully restored by the present King. Overnight at Punakha
Day 07
:
Punakha/Paro: Morning after breakfast Indian Horizons would escort you to Paro. Drive through the region and capture moments. On arrival to Paro relax at the hotel.Overnight at Paro.
Day 08
:
Conclude your Dragon Kingdom Journey: Indian Horizons representative would be in time at your hotel to escort you to the Paro airport to connect your onward destination flight.
